Removing Ink Stains from Carpets

Robert

There is no question that if ink stains are left on fabrics, rugs and carpets, they can become extremely damaging to the fabric and cause a permanent stain that cannot be removed. And while with cleaning technology, there are better ways of removing ink stains from carpets and rugs, it is vital to act fast. However with a little action and a few handy household products that nasty ink stain can be removed from your carpet.

  • Apply a white cloth with isopropyl alcohol (the higher the concentration, the better it will work), and then proceed by dabbing the wet cloth on the stained carpet. Be careful not to scrub! This could cause the stain to spread. Let it stand for a few minutes, and then vacuum with a liquid friendly vacuum to remove excess moisture.
  • You may need to treat the carpet stain with the alcohol again. Also some hairsprays work, nail polish removers, and other things that contain high contents of alcohols (even white wines and vinegars may be used.)
  • When using any of these chemicals, rinse with water and blot up liquid, or use a steam cleaner to extract liquid thanks to its hot, high-pressure steam, then vacuum or blot to dry.
  • Be sure to always perform a test on an inconspicuous area of the carpet to make sure these cleaning solutions will not lead to further damage on certain types of carpeting.
